The Lupine People

Overview and History

The Lupine people, also known as the Wivunu, are a race of anthropomorphic wolves. Their name, Wivunu comes from the word for 'wolf' or 'person' in their language, Lupine or Deki Wivunu (Wolf Language). The Wivunu were once a space-age society, but when a meteor hit their land their population was almost completely wiped out, and their technology was fried. Since then, they have had to start back from square one, once again living in the Stone Age. But along the way, they have evolved super senses, speed, and wits. The Wivunu have been isolated on an island for a million years since the meteor, and have yet to be visited by outsiders. This is probably for the better.

Physical Info and Stats

The Wivunu can be grey, brown, black, or white, or a combination of any colour and white, basically the same colors as a wolf found in the wild. The Wivunu often cover themselves in paint markings to distinguish themselves. It is possible for a wolfperson to grow up to 70 years of age, which is impressive considering they lack modern technology and medicine. The Wivunu typically grow anywhere from 4 to 6 and a half feet tall (1,22 to 1,98 meters) and weight can range from 60 to 200 pounds (27 to 91 kilogrames). They can run up to 40 miles (64 kilometers) an hour. Their jaws are big and powerful enough to fit and crush a skull.

Culture and Ways of Life

The Wivunu are a peaceful culture that believes in nature spirits. They are also nomadic, and a pack of wolfpeople will travel over 10 miles over the course of a day or two, in search of food, water, and other valuable resources. Having been isolated on an island for a million years, they are cautious and wary of outsiders, in the event that their island is discovered. They have no anthem and no flag, as they do not believe in needing such. The Wivunu have no actual universal system of laws and justice, as their shared beliefs and the rules of the alphas that vary among the packs seem to keep everyone in check, for the most part. They hunt as a group, and only kill what they will eat. They are carnivores and typically eat deer, chicken, and squirrel, and while they can tolerate raw meat, they prefer to eat it roasted over an open fire and occasionally seasoned with wild herbs. They will also eat apples and wild berries on occasion. The Wivunu live in families or packs of up to 10 wolfpeople. These families are very tight-knit and the death of one wolfperson can cause the entire family to collapes. As cubs, the wolfpeople learn basic skills such as hunting, language, and crafting tools. When they are grown up, they help with hunting and cooking, and they take care of elders and help raise and babysit cubs. The Wivunu typically wear togas or tunics, called kavuwi made from deer hide. They wear necklaces, called kaswe made from chicken feathers, squirrel tails, and wood or stone beads. The alpha of a family typically carries a wooden staff, a kashwiso , that is painted and decorated with a deer skull, squirrel and rabbit pelts, and colorfully dyed feathers. Unlike real wolves, the Wivunu are diurnal, hunting, cooking, and taking care of other responsibilities during the daytime. At night, they sleep in the woods, under trees. The Wivunu share clearings and unwooded areas as 'meeting areas' where wolfpeople from different packs can trade, talk, share food and resources, and hang out.
